Good and bad points of sightseeing in Romania

By Mara Merca

Romania. This often-overlooked tourist destination is a hidden gem filled with beautiful forests, regal castles and epic mountains. Owing to its rich medieval history, Romania is positively saturated with beautiful castles in various states of repair. The country also has a huge amount of undisturbed forests (and the largest population of brown bears in Europe), making it a great destination for nature lovers. With the Carpathian Mountains running through the center of the country, the combination is a perfect fit for those who seek some memorable views.

I consider Romania, as a land on itself, a picturesque destination from all the points of view. Sightseeing in Romania is always a pleasure.

First of all, Romania represents a wonderful source of amazing and various landscapes. Romania is beautiful. The countryside, the medieval cities, the people… Romania has plenty of surprises in store. Cities like SighiÈ™oara and BraÈ™ov are attractive and colorful, and the countryside remains largely untouched in most parts of the country. Carpathians Mountains, The Transfăgărășan Road, MaramureÈ™, Bran Castle, Corvin Castle, PeleÈ™ Castel, Danube Delta, Bigar Fall, The Romanian Tunnel of  Love, the sunflower fields, the moss swamp are  few of the many great things and place to see in Romania. And the locals?  Lovely people who will undoubtedly be happy to see you and happier still to talk to you about their country or offer you some tasty traditional food.

Secondly, Romania is worth the time and the money. Especially the money, because it is really affordable for everyone and the services are quiet good. Cheaper even than the Czech Republic and Hungary, Romania should be attractive just because of  its price tag. Everything from accommodation to transport to food is affordable. Even the “touristy” places are far from expensive. For example, in Brasov - one of Romania’s top tourist destinations for both domestic and foreign tourists - entry to the major attraction (Bran Castle) is only $7 USD for an adult ticket with photo license. “The most expensive meals I had in the country (at a really posh restaurant) was $12 — the cheapest was less than $3. You can only imagine how cheap beer was.” wrote a female blogger called Amanda on her travelling blog.

On the other side, there are some bad points of  Romania that may disturb one’s good time. For example, trains are usually late and many roads are bad which makes visiting Romania a little harder and uncomfortable.

But if you compare the good and the bad points I think there are more good things about Romania than bad things. And I also think more people should know about this amazing country.
